Children In Need - Wool Stash for Cash

Hello knitters and crocheters out there!

We know that anyone who knits or crochets ends up with a stash of lots of unwanted odds and ends, what do you do with them? Well, we have a solution. You could make one, two or more little cuddly toys or cute critters to donate to the Family Library woolly Children In Need fundraiser.

We'd sell all the donated items - for pocket-money prices - at the library throughout November. Any donations will be gratefully accepted and you can start donating the items now.

Please spread the word - Thank you!

World Champion!

Katie Sayle, Mrs Dorothy Oliver (Champion), Mrs Sara Elliott and Urzsula Uroda

Mrs Dorothy Oliver - World Champion!

After all the public votes were counted we presented prizes to all the winners of our First World Championship Knitted or Crocheted Fairycake Competition.

Winners of the Family Library heat were Mrs Sara Elliott and Urzsula Uroda with a special prize going to Mrs Sandra Herring for her contribution to the event - Mrs Herring organises a lunchtime sewing club at Fairfield School and encouraged some of the pupils to make fairycakes for our competition.

The overall winners of the competition were Champion Mrs Oliver, Junior Winner Katie Sayle and Runner Up Lorna MacKellor.

Championship Prize and the winning cake

We'd like to thank all of our generous sponsors for providing such lovely prizes - Lexicon Bookshop, Simply Delicious, Funny Love, Just Enough and The Butler's Choice. We'd also like to thank Librarians Pam Hand (Onchan Library), Pauline Cringle (Castletown Library), Angela Dryland (Port Erin Library) and Carol Horton (Peel Library) for organising their heats and many thanks to their sponsors too.

Prizes!

We had a lovely presentation with tea and scrumptious cakes provided Simply Delicious and we'd like to extend more thanks to all the guests who made the effort to attend.

We're going to organise another woolly competition next year and hope lots of people take part and join in the fun!

Fairycake Voting Ends

We'd like to think all the people who voted for their favourite knitted or crocheted fairycake - we had a huge response. All the cakes received lots of votes each but the winners and especially the Champion were exceptionally popular.

The display of woolly cakes was possibly one of the most popular displays we've had at the library with lots of ooohing and aahhhhing at the cute creations.

We'll be presenting the prizes and announcing the Champion on Friday 15th
