Valentine's Day Project - Selly Oak

We have just received a lovely letter from Major Ian Cheesman, Officer Commanding Patient Support Services at Selly Oak Hospital, thanking all the children and parents who decorated cards for the military patients.

Here is what Major Cheesman said -

Firstly, may I on behalf of the soldiers, sailors, airmen and women who have had the misfortune (due to wounding) to pass through this organisation, now and in the future, offer my sincerest thanks to you for the generous donation of the hand made cards

It is quite simply a great gesture and will make a difference to those military personnel that have been wounded in action and their families. These will be distributed to the military patients as they come in or require them.

Once again, a huge thank-you for this donation, it is a huge boost tot eh service personnel to know there is such wonderful public support

Beauty and the Beast - Valentine's Day

Angela Barrett is one of the finest illustrators in the UK, if not the world. Her illustrations for the Beauty and the Beast story are perhaps her finest work so far and a perfect way for the library to celebrate Valentine's Day. (contains images)

Valentine's Day Project Update

We had a wonderful response to this project from children, parents and schools and we ended up with a grand total of 551 cards - which exceeded our expectations. Get Well cards have been sent to Selly Oak Hospital and Headley Court Rehabilitation Centre and all the rest have been sent to the Duke of Lancaster's Battalion stationed in Afghanistan. Valentine's Day Project

In 2008 the library staff wanted to show support for local and North West boys who were fighting in Iraq with The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment, so we set up a project to send hand-decorated cards to The Regiment made by members of the library. (contains images)
